Peter Rouw
Peter Rouw II (17 April 1771– 9 December 1852〔Dates in Rupert Gunnis, ''Dictionary of British Sculptors 1660-1851, rev, ed. 1968, ''s.v.'' "Rouw, Peter, the Younger"; Gunnis includes a list of monuments,〕) was a London-based sculptor specialising in bas-reliefs in marble, often in the form of mural church monuments, and in wax miniature portraits, often of a pink hue on black glass. He designed medals, including one of William Wilberforce,〔Gunnis 1968.〕 and also made a few marble busts. He exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts. He was the son of the sculptor Peter Rouw I (fl. 1787- 1793〔The elder Rouw exhibited wax portraits and a figure for a chimneypiece at the Royal Academy, 1787-93 (Gunnis 1968, ''s.v.'' "Rouw, Peter, the Elder").〕), apparently of Dutch origin. He entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1788 and exhibited there until 1838. He was a friend of the sculptor Joseph Nollekens. He had an address in Norton Street, Fitzroy Square. In later life he lost the sight of one eye and experienced financial problems.〔(Peter Rouw ) Sussex Parish Churches, Architects and Artists. Retrieved 25 September 2012.〕 One of his students was Samuel Joseph (1791–1850), who is known for making the statue of William Wilberforce in Westminster Abbey.
